Real-world Czech rally stages for Richard Burns Rally

Development phases

Every stage goes through three phases. The phase is shown on each stage card and on the stage page, so you know what to expect before you download it.

Right now every stage is in Phase 1. They can be driven from start to finish, but expect bugs. Feedback from testers is what moves a stage into the next phase.

How feedback works

  1. Open a stage and scroll through the driver's-eye previews (one every 50 m), or drive it in the game.
  2. Sign in, stop at the spot that is wrong and describe it. You can mark the exact thing in the preview, select a whole section and attach your own photos.
  3. Each note gets fixed in the stage and marked as done, with a short reply and the build it was fixed in.
  4. Once a stage has no open notes for its phase, it moves on to the next one.

How to install a stage

The stages are built for Richard Burns Rally with the RallySimFans (RSF) plugin. Downloads are available to signed-in testers.

  1. Sign in, open the stage you want and click Download stage. You get one ZIP file (100–350 MB).
  2. Close Richard Burns Rally if it is running.
  3. Extract the ZIP into the Maps folder of your RBR installation, for example C:\Richard Burns Rally\Maps\. You should end up with a folder like Maps\7723-Bzi---Rally-Bohemia-2006\ that contains the track-7723_M.* files and Tracks7723.ini.
  4. Do not rename the folder or the files. The number in the name is the stage ID and the game uses it to find the stage.
  5. Start the game. The stage shows up in the stage list under its name and ID.

Updating a stage

When a stage gets a new build, delete the old folder from Maps first and then extract the new ZIP. The build date is shown next to the download button.

Stage IDs

Every stage uses its own ID in the 7700 range, so it does not replace any original or RSF stage.

About the project

rbr-maps recreates real Czech rally stages, the roads used at Rally Bohemia and Rallye Jizera, for Richard Burns Rally.

Each stage starts from open geographic data: the official route, a precise terrain model, aerial imagery and the road network. From that, a first version of the stage is generated automatically: the road with its real width and profile, the terrain around it, forests, villages and roadside objects. That is the Phase 1 version you can drive here.

Then comes the slow part. Every section is compared against reality and tuned by hand: road widths, surfaces, verges and ditches, junctions, buildings, walls and fences. The notes testers leave on this site drive that work. Each one is checked, fixed and confirmed in the next build.

The previews on this site are renders of the stage model itself, not photos, so what you see is what you get in the game.
